Frequency Standards Laboratory

The LITE is a more compact version of the LITS frequency standard. Here, the ions are shuttled back and forth between an open area where they are prepared and observed, and a shielded area where they are isolated from any possible disturbance. In addition to smaller overall size, this allows each region to be better optimized. Thus it eliminates compromises that were necessary in the older LITS standard and allows better overall performance.
